Calculating the value of an online marketing video for your specific company and your specific marketing campaign, in the past has been a daunting task. Our experts will not only give you the statistics, but explain in detail what they can mean to you and your company. To top it all off, we’ve made this process even easier with our online calculator. Simply put, our online marketing videos have a far greater impact than you might think. Here’s why:
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past several years, you’ve no doubt heard people say, that Video is a powerful online marketing tool. You may also have heard, “Everyone who is anyone, is now using video in their marketing campaigns.” Or even that 100% of Fortune 500 companies are now using video as a regular part of their marketing campaigns. But do you know why?
We work with a lot of people, and we frequently hear concerns like, “A Video sounds expensive. Which means I may not get my return on investment.” Or perhaps something like, “It’s effectiveness is an unknown to me, so I’ll stick to what I’ve been doing.” Frankly put, that is exactly the thought process that keeps companies from growing. But not just growing, without keeping up with the times, every company will eventually die off. Just look at companies like Woolworths, Blockbuster, Polaroid, Borders Books, Kodak, BlackBerry, and the list goes on and on.
If you have considered either of these reservations mentioned above, or perhaps something similar, you’re not alone. We frequently work with people who have these types of concerns. In a nutshell, you want to know that you’re not going to be a guinea pig and that there is some type of guarantee. To that, we can confidently say, “Yes”. Our explainer videos are guaranteed to improve the results of your marketing campaign. However, it’s impossible to know how much, because there are so many variables to consider. If we look at statistics, we will get an idea of what hundreds of thousands of other companies are experiencing when they add video to their marketing campaigns.
The statistics behind the use of video in online marketing can be mind boggling by themselves, but these statistics only begin to paint the picture. To truly understand what this means to your company, you’ll need to dig deeper. The problem is that this takes time, and most small businesses don’t have an expert who is dedicated to this task of digging deeper.
Fortunately, we do, have an expert. Our expert has both the time and the expertise to dig in, and is also willing to share what these statistics can mean to your business. The best part is they are willing to do it all for free. So, let’s get started.
The following statistic sounds great, but what does it REALLY mean?
A video on a properly SEO’d website can boost the chances
of showing on the first page of Google Search Results by 53 times.
Sure, as a standalone marketing tool, a video can be powerful, but it’s real power is uncovered when it’s partnered with other marketing tools. In the example above, it is partnered with SEO. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a powerful way of getting your website to show up higher in the search results, when people search for a given product or service on Google using specific keywords related to your product or service. For the sake of time and focus, I won’t get into to the specifics of SEO, so to put it simply, if your site isn’t on the first page of Google Search results, you are missing out on a LOT of traffic.
To help you understand how much web traffic you might be missing out on, this chart shows on average, what it means if your website shows up on the second page of a google search results. The whole second page is only getting 4.8% of the available web traffic, otherwise known as perspective customers. And if your website is on page 3, the whole page is only getting 1.1% of these perspective customers.
So, by doing nothing more than getting your site to show up on the first page of Google Search Results for your specific key words, it would make a huge difference in your web traffic, or perspective customers. For example, if you are currently on page 2, that change alone could boost your perspective customers by 1,906%. If you’re currently on page 3, that change could boost your web traffic by 8,318%; page 4, by 22,875% and the numbers continue to go up exponentially.
Are you beginning to get the picture? Now, if we look at that same statistic, we can better understand that we are not only 53 times more likely to be on the first page of Google Search Results, but also that we are 53 times more likely to be getting tons more web traffic, which equals tons more perspective customers, and significantly more sales.
However, to keep proper perspective, we need to point out that once your website shows up on the first page of Google search results, it shouldn’t be the end of your efforts. Your goal should be the #1 placement on the First page. Here’s why. Statistics further show us that
32.5% of the web traffic will click on the link in the first position. 17.6% on the link in the second position and so forth. Also note, that all these statistics are for organic search engine results only, and not paid placements.
Now, with this deeper understanding of what these statistics really mean, here’s a few more statistics that should get you excited.
Click through rates on Video links on Search Results pages
is 41% higher than a text link.
This statistic shows us that in addition to being 53 times more likely to be getting higher web traffic, because of first page placement with Google search results, that your also going to get 41% more traffic than you would otherwise normally get from that search results placement. This means that if your site is already in the #1 placement, you would get 32.5% of the web traffic, + an additional 41%. The second position would get 17.6% + an additional 41%, and so on.
Here’s what one of our customers had to say after including an animated explainer video in his online marketing campaign.
“Adding a video to my website increased traffic to my site by 1900%. This was a no-brainer. The process was simple and it was easy to incorporate into my marketing efforts. Video plays a critical role in today’s marketing efforts, and Search Engine Video Group has become a key partner in advancing the future of our company.”
Here’s another exciting statistic.
Products promoted by video are 85% more likely to be purchased.
At the end of the day, it’s all about the sales right? After all, it wouldn’t do you any good, if you had thousands of people visit your site, but nobody bought anything. Now imagine with the increased traffic you’re seeing from being 53 times more likely to be on the first page of Google Search Results, combined with 41% more click throughs, and now you add an 85% higher sales conversion rate for your products or services. The numbers become mind-boggling.
Again, to keep a proper perspective and to keep things realistic, we need to remember there are an endless number of factors that come into play when calculating the application, and reality of any of these statistics as they may relate to your specific products, services, market, etc. After all they are only the averages of tens of thousands of businesses surveyed. This means that the results of some will be much higher, while others will be much lower. But, knowing that these are in fact averages, can you begin to appreciate the impact that an online marketing video could have. Also, what your business could do if your online sales were to increase by these “averages,” or even by more conservative levels?
As I’ve said before, online marketing videos are an amazing tool when paired with other marketing tools. If your business uses email for marketing, here’s a statistic that should get your attention.
Email Campaigns are 90% more efficient when using a Video.
With these and many more statistics showing the power of video as an online powerhouse marketing tool, is it any wonder that the majority of businesses are planning to increase the use of video in their annual marketing budgets.
65% of businesses expect to increase marketing budgets in the coming year,
to include, or expand their use of videos in their marketing campaigns.
The question you should be asking yourself now, if you didn’t already earlier in this article is, “So what do these statistics mean for my specific business? And of course, what would our ROI look like with our current levels of online traffic and sales.”
To help you answer that question and envision your company’s online sales potential, check out our Video Boost Calculator that uses just a couple of these statistics to calculate what our videos could do to boost your traffic and sales.
